Overview
This maintenance project is a whole of convention centre maintenance arrangement for the lawns and gardens of the convention centre.
PLSNQ took over the site as a Brownfield site from the previous contractor after negotiations directly with the convention centre and commenced a condition recovery transformation across the entire grounds.
Our goal and client aim were to provide the Cairns Convention Centre, its clients and Cairns community with a very well maintained, fresh and pleasant environment to attend for corporate and community events.

Scope of Work

• Provide routine and scheduled grounds maintenance services for lawns, and garden areas including suspended gardens and trellis vines
• Provide adhoc and specialised services at the request of the centre when required
• Visually monitor the grounds and buildings for damages, and other maintenance matters and report these items for further instruction by the centre

Challenges

The main project challenges faced during our time on site are:

• Delivering services that are inherently noisy in a live facility in a manner where disturbance to guests is at a minimum
• Ensuring that works are sectioned off into zones to ensure that particular times of day as required by the centre are kept as quiet as is possible
• Short notice use of entrance areas occasionally occurs when client’s usage requirements change last minute needing PLSNQ to on occasion conduct responsive lawnmowing or gardening
• On occasion weather is a hinderance with parts of the building being subject to high winds and blown rain

The Result

The ultimate result has been a visually appealing yet practical and easy-care environment that will provide the centre, clients, and community with a pleasant environment for years to come.
Our direct client, Cairns Convention Centre is extremely pleased with the result with the centre management team engaging directly with PLSNQ on future projects as a preferred subcontractor to the Cairns Convention Centre.
